Royal Commission Reports on Betting - Western Australia

Here are three documents: Reports of 1959 and 1948 together with a copyright release to reproduce the two reports issued by the Attorney General of Western Australia.

The reports under reference are considered important to NSW TAB history having regard to the following facts:

  • The TAB of Western Australia was established prior to the TAB of New South Wales.
  • The person initially placed in charge of betting operations in New South Wales, Albert (Al) Smith, was a citizen of Western Australia who had gained his experience in Perth.
  • The system adopted for ticket processing in New South Wales was based on a method developed by two officers of the Government of Western Australia.
  • A system of data entry using card reader mark sensing introduced in New South Wales during 1977 had been first piloted in Western Australia.
