Small transactions faster with Visa!
Whether you’re buying a burger, the morning paper or paying for a taxi fare, Visa customers can now simply swipe their card and go, in a safe and convenient way.
Entering a PIN or signing a receipt will no longer be necessary for purchases under $35, at participating retailers.
Visa’s Australian Country Manager Vipin Kalra says, “by removing the requirement to enter a PIN or sign for small value purchases, retailers can process transactions faster and reduce customer waiting times, which is especially important in a fast paced retail environment.”
After a successful introduction overseas in 2003, Visa has introduced its small transaction service to Australian consumers to make small transactions faster and more convenient for both consumers and retailers.
The new service has little risk involved as it is only offered through merchants where goods and services have little or no resale value, which makes fraud less likely. The service can only be conducted in a face-to-face purchasing environment and is not offered if the customer requests cash out.
“Like all Visa transactions, Visa Easy Payment Service payments are highly secure and are electronically authorised by the card issuer. In addition, cardholders are protected by Visa’s Zero Liability policy1, which means they are not held liable for unauthorised transactions” says Mr. Kalra.
Since its launch, the service has been well received in countries such as the US, China, Japan, Singapore & Korea and recent data reports in the USA have confirmed that there has been no incremental increase in fraud or charge backs since the introduction.
Each transaction, as with any Visa card transaction, is authorised online and is subject to checking.
If a customer loses their Visa card they are encouraged to report it to the issuer as soon as possible. Customers will be entitled to all Visa card protection as stipulated in the agreement with the issuer.
Visa customers will automatically be offered this service if the merchant has implemented it.
