Each person joining First Option is required to purchase a share at $2. Your share is fully refundable should you close your Credit Union membership.
Like all Financial Institutions, First Option is required to verify your identity when you:
- open a new savings, investment or loan account; or
- become a signatory to an account.
This process will occur once only and will involve:
- sighting original documents which will be used to verify particulars such as members’ full name and date of birth; or
- if you are unable to visit one of our branches in person, you may send us a copy of the required documents that have been certified as a true copy by an acceptable certifier.

Our identity verification procedures are compliant with the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (Cth), which is designed to help prevent people from using the financial system for tax evasion, money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
First Option supports this Australia-wide effort to fight crime and will do everything it can to make these procedures as smooth as possible for members.
